CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Excess volatility increases risk further. Be cautious. Past performance is not an indication of future results.

Sizing, then carrying

Costing a hold that lasts several days (Pakistan)

A position meant to stay open past the rollover has two separate arithmetics: how large it may be, and what carrying it collects. The tool below settles the first. The second is a short sheet you write yourself.

The calculator converts an amount, a share of it and a stop distance into a position size. It knows nothing about how long the position is held, so it prints no carry cost. On a swap-free account the carry sheet has one row that stays empty — the overnight swap — while the spread, and any commission, are unaffected.

What the trade may cost if the stop is hit$1.00
Size that fits — Standard lots
Same size — Standard Cent units

Set for a pair quoted in US dollars, such as EUR/USD: 100,000 units × 0.0001 puts one pip on a full lot at $10. Other instruments price a pip differently. Learning and planning only — not financial advice.

The carry sheet, four rows

Take the size the tool printed and write four rows beside it. Fill what you can from the platform; leave the rest as questions rather than guesses.

  1. Row one — the spread, once

Charged as the trade opens, whatever the account status. Read it off the quote at the size you are using; it does not repeat with each day held.

  2. Row two — commission, if the type charges one

Some account types trade a tighter spread for a commission per lot. Swap-free does not remove it. If the type charges nothing, write zero and move on.

  3. Row three — swap, once per night held

On a normal account this repeats at every rollover. On a swap-free account it is not applied to eligible instruments, so the row is blank — and the length of the hold stops driving the cost.

  4. Row four — the fee that can replace it

Some instruments carry a fixed administration fee once a position has been held for several days. It is not swap and it is not automatic. Leave the row as an open question for support if the hold is long.

Which box the mistake is in

Doubling the amount, or the share from 1% to 2%, doubles all three printed rows; doubling the pips leaves the top row alone and halves the two beneath. So a wrong-looking figure places itself: a jumped top row points at the first two boxes, a still one at the pips.

Carry-sheet mistakes place themselves too. A cost that grows with each day held is row three. A cost that appeared once, on the first day, is row one. A cost that arrived on day four out of nowhere is row four, and worth naming before asking about it.

Three things this figure is not

Not an order: nothing typed here reaches an account. Not a quote: no price or spread is fetched, so the same inputs answer the same at any hour. Not proof of a status: a blank swap row on this page is an assumption about your account, and the account is what settles it — the Personal Area, not a page. This handbook is independent and places no trades.

A cheaper carry is not a safer position. CFDs are complex instruments, trading is risky and a hold that costs nothing to keep can still lose money while it is kept.

Questions asked over the sheet

The middle row prints «below 0.01» — is something broken?

No: a right answer that landed under the smallest Standard trade.

Does the calculator know my account is swap-free?

It knows nothing about any account. It converts three typed figures and stops there.

Why is there no field for the number of nights held?

Because the tool sizes a position rather than pricing a carry. Nights belong to row three of the sheet.

Only the distance was changed — why did the top row stay put?

It never touches the pips; distance only spreads the same money across a longer stop.

The order window prints a different cost — which figure do I act on?

The platform’s. It knows the instrument, the spread and the moment.

Will it warn me if the amount typed in is too much to lose?

It cannot. Any figure is accepted and dutifully multiplied.

Does anything typed into these boxes get saved or sent?

Nothing is stored or sent; the next visit repeats the example.
